What if the worst happens and your pet becomes lost? To avoid unnecessary heartache it is important that you have a method of being reunited with your missing pet once he is found. Microchipping provides a simple, reliable and effective way of identifying your pet to animal wardens and vets. Unlike tattoos the chip cannot fade, be removed, duplicated or altered, or become unreadable.

The microchipping procedure is no more painful than an injection and the chip itself is inert and harmless and only around the size of a grain of rice. The chip is implanted between the shoulder blades and the procedure takes only a few seconds. Your pet can be identified by his unique chip number as soon as it is implanted.

The microchips used by The Pet Store are acceptable for the PETS scheme and are registered on Petlog - the National Pet Identification database - who operate a 24/7 reunification service. Petlog is owned and managed by the Kennel Club. Petlog is also a member of the European Pet Network which means you can be reunited with your pet if it is found in Europe.

Once your pet is microchipped, their details will be added to the Petlog database and a registration certificate will be sent direct to you by post. Lifetime registration on the Petlog database is included in the fee paid to The Pet Store and you will also receive a metal collar tag stating that your pet is microchipped. Petlog also offer an optional premium service at additional charge which provides you and your pet with enhanced benefits. You should receive details of this service along with your registration certificate.

The Pet Store can provide the microchipping service either in the shop or, if preferred, at your home if you are a local customer. (Note that we do not microchip on Mondays.)
